SAVANNAH - Zita Mae Hooker entered into eternal rest on May 22, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, GA after a short illness. "Zu" as she was known to friends and family was born on Sept. 29, 1918 in Sylvania, GA, in Screven County, to Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ottis Brant, the oldest of 3 children.
Zita Mae was a long time employee of Fines of Savannah and retired from Strachan Shipping Co. after eighteen years of loyal service as the switchboard operator. She was a member of the Women's Propeller Club of Savannah where she was past president and Woman of the Year. Zita Mae was a member of Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church on Tybee Island, GA. She was preceded in death by her younger brother Cail D. Brant of Barrington, RI.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years Stokes D.Hooker of Savannah; a daughter Nancy Marston of Savannah; a son Randal B. Hooker and daughter- in- law Emma C. Hooker of Savannah; a grandson Randal Brant Hooker Jr. and grand-daughter-in-law Renee G. Hooker of Rincon, GA; 2 great-granddaughters, Lucy Shores and Alexandria Hooker; great-grandson Samuel Gates; 1 great-great-granddaughter Karmen Emily Shores; a sister Hazel Bill Caldwell of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nieces, Linda B. Doan, Beth and Lindsay Doan all of Auburn, NY, Gail B. Anderson and Heather Anderson of Barrington, RI, Becki A. Trickey and Sara Trickey of Charleston, SC; and nephew Robert Daniel Ackerman of Orlando, FL.
She enriched the lives of all she came in contact with and was dearly loved by family and friends. She will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 25, 2008, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, May 26, 2008, at Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church on Tybee Island.
Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 26, 2008, at Screven Memorial Park in Sylvania, GA.
The family suggests remembrances to be made to Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1203, Tybee Island, GA 31328.
